Biographical Sketch
George Dassios received his degree in Mathematics from the University of Athens (1970), his Master of Science (1972) and his Ph.D (1975) in Applied Mathematics from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and his Habilitation (1980) in Partial Differential Equations from the National Technical University of Athens. Since 1981 he is Professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Patras. For the last three years he holds a Marie Curie Chair of Excellence in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics of the University of Cambridge. His research interests are focused on Mathematical Methods in Science and Modern Technology, and in particular on Wave Propagation and Scattering Theory in Acoustics, Electromagnetism and Continuum Mechanics, Boundary Value Problems in Ellipsoidal Geometry, Stokes Flow, Mathematical Modeling in Medical Sciences, Analytical Imaging Algorithms and General Spectral Methods. He is the author of 10 textbooks and research monographs, of over 150 research papers, and over 100 presentations in international conferences. He has supervised 20 Ph.D students and he was the leading scientist, or a collaborator, in 35 European and National research projects.
